New Yorker Cover

I've heard lots of debate today about whether or not this cover of the "New Yorker" magazine is "satirical" or "distasteful".

In my personal opinion, it's totally tasteless.

I heard someone say that it was only to poke fun at the stereotypes floating around about Obama. Well, if Barack Obama does win the election this fall, guess which magazine reporters may be less welcome at the White House!

I have mixed feelings about this. Political satire is usually very unflattering, but one this 'unflattering' on the cover of a very liberal slanting magazine throws up red flags for me.

why? What is the agenda? I know I sound very 'conspiracy theory' like, but it is a valid question.

I agree, kris. I wasn't particularly shocked to see a satirical cartoon, but I was rather surprised to see is plastered on the cover of the New Yorker.

The cartoon is unquestionably tasteless, but I'm a strong proponent of the first amendment, i.e., freedom of speech/expression. As the princess says, free press is the cornerstone of a true democracy.
